55 Emile was an orphaned twin. He went to one family and his brother to another. They had a good inheritance but his brother's family was poor and they spent it all. Steynen, Emile Gisbert Marie François (I1878)

56 Ethel C Mayfield wife of Sherwood Noble I am assuming her maiden is Mayfield because her mother is referred to as Mrs. Nellie Mayfield According to a Inspection Memorandum from Immigration services. Ethel applied for Immigration and permanent residency in the US on 27Sep1923. In this document she indicates she is a Canadian citizen. She was born in Kentucky and lived there from 1890 -1895. Her mothers name is referred to as Mrs. Nellie Mayfield living in Kingsville, Ont. (as her father was born in Kentucky, I assumed they moved to Canada where her mother was born and became Canadian citizens) She also indicates that Sherwood is currently living at 900 E. Lincoln, Royal Oak She list herself as 33 years old, 5’6”, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, and in good health. The actual border crossing took place in Oct 1923 according to a manifest for that time. Listed on the manifest is Ethel age 33, Helen age 6, Sam (most likely Sarah, manifest was filled out by a clerk, not Ethel), Glenn age 5, Claire age 3, and Corrine age 1 month. Mrs. Nellie Mayfield had 2 other Daughters born in the US and moved back to Canada from Kentucky in 1895 or 1896. Both dates are referenced in the 1901 and 1911 Canadian census. According to the 1901 Canadian census she was a widow. Mayfield, Ethel C (I2961)

63 Frances "Frankey" Lea Jessee is not listed in the estate settlement of her husband, John Jessee, Senior (see the settlement in notes about John Jessee, Senior) signed on March 28, 1828 after his death on Nov. 17, 1815. (Russell Co.,VA, D.B. 1, p. 304). Therefore, I assume that she was deceased by March, 1828. The book by Anne Wynn Laningham, "Early Settlers of Lee County, Virginia and Adjacent Counties, Volume 1" (Frankfort, Ky. Historical Library 975.502) page 172, states that she died in Russell Co., VA., after 1812. The first name of one of her sons was her maiden name: Lea Jessee. Lea, Frances "Frankey" (I964)

69 Have photo of death Certificate Information from Tom Rainson (grandson): Cordelia died in LaBelle. We all used to play on the floor at her feet. If you think hard you will remember her. In fact, my parents and I were visiting there near the end of her life. She always said that she was looking forward to being with Charles again. Cordelia had lived in California with Arthur's sister Rose until Rose died at which time Arthur brought her to the farm. The burial took place in the family plots in Newark. Note: Great Aunt Rose fell or jumped from a seaside cliff in California after a period of depression. Residents of the Newark Cemetery also include the Martins and the Rudds. McConnell, Cordelia Victoria (I2053)

70 Helen was undeniably refined as evidenced by her yelling out from the bathroom for her husband while we were visiting: "Sam! I'm out of ass wipes!" As if that wasn't proof enough; we arrived at there home unexpectedly for our regular after-church-coffee-and-rolls only to be met at the door by and obviously disoriented and recently risen Helen who responded to Sam's yell from the bedroom for her to get the door: "J... C... Sam, I'm up. You blew me right out of bed." This was in reference to Sam's almost legendary flatulence - legendary not for it's volume or pitch but rather for his being oblivious to it and to its rather potent affects. Helen also developed some skill at proctophonics but, to demonstrate her good breeding, she would always immediately say, "The doctor told me to do that." What kind of a vicious mankind-hating doctor would tell her to do that, you ask, but your question goes unanswered. DeCock, Helen (I128)

71 Her mother died in child birth. She was raised by the Rudd family, Sylvester and Annie. Rector, Margaret "Maggie" E (I881)

86 Isaiah Fuller Burk(e) was listed as 18 on the 1850 Russell Co., VA census,
aged 18 and living with his parents, Fleming Burk(e), Junior and Nancy Jessee
Burk(e). I am NOT sure that he died in Rose Hill,. Lee Co., VA. Also, there is conflicting information as to whether he died in 1877 or 1878.

NOTE: His son, Isaiah Fuller "Zade" Burke, was born three months after the
death of his father. My record shows that "Zade" Burke was born on June 20,
1877. That would establish that Isaiah Fuller Burke died in 1877, circa March 20, 1877. (This information comes from the son of "Zade" Burke, "I.F." Burke, who lived in Lexington, Kentucky in April, 1995). In 1998 I believe they live in Abingdon, Virginia. (in 2000 they again live in Lexington, KY).

In the Civil War, Isaiah Fuller Burke was a First Lieutenant in the 9th Regiment under General Lee. He was a P.O.W. at Camp Chase, Ohio in 1864. He was released in 1865. He was captured at Moorefield on August 7, 1864 by General Averal's men.

His first marriage was to Martha Ann Wilson in 1852.( The minister was David Jessee). Their son, George Burk died 14 years later. (This is data from the internet web site for Russell Co., VA. I had no previous record of George Burk.)

His second marriage, in 1862, was to Sarah (Sallie) J. Holdway, This information is from ginnyburke@sigecom.net

93 John Jesse, Senior, is my great, great, great, great (4) grandfather. I must send for his Revolutionary War Record if I can get it. Jim Jessee in Vol. 15 of the "Jessee Family Newsletter", Aug., 1999 refers to "John and Frankey Lea Jessee of Cobb's Creek, Caswell County, North Carolina and Carr's Creek (today Mill's Creek) in Reed's Valley, Russell Co., VA." Index, page 368; and, Roster of N.C. Soldiers in N.C. DAR - page 12, page 138). See Will Book 3, page 169, Russell Co., Virginia, for listing of children. See: EARLY SETTLERS OF LEE COUNTY, VIRGINIA and ADJACENT COUNTIES, VOLUNE I, by Anne Wynn Laningham; published 1977, Media, Inc., Printers and Publishers, Greensboro, North Carolina. Kentucky Historical Society Library, 975.502, L, 477 l, v.1.- Pages 171-179: "From the arms description comes the proof that the JESSEE family is of WELSH extraction. They were seated in the northern part of Wales at Denbigh in Denbigshire, Wales. Burke's "General Armory". John Jessee, Senior, was a soldier living in Caswell County, North Carolina, during the American Revolution. He was listed as a Musician in Yarboro's Company and again in Pierce's Registr as a Revolutionary Soldier. (Roster of Soldiers in N.C. by the N.C.D.A.R., page 12 and 138. He is also listed in the D.A.R. Patriot Index, page 368.) John Jessee was living in Russell County, Virginia when he bought land from Thomas Price and Jane his wife 25 March, 1791, 100 acres on both sides of Carr's Creek which had been granted to Price on April 22, 1785. (D.B. 1, page 135, Russell Co., VA. (NOTE that the wife of John Jessee, Senior, Frances "Frankey" Lea Jessee is not listed in the above settlement; and, I believe that she was deceased by that time). Jessee, SENIOR John (I963)
