Transcriber’s Notes: “LINES COMPOSED ON THE ANCIENT PROPRIETORS OF SHANVALLEY”, This poem was written in approximately 1835 by a local school teacher named McKinley (note corrected spelling of his name) prior to the family’s departure for America. I have attempted to duplicate the size and style of font, capitalization, spacing and placement on the page according to the typed document placed in William Henry Hart’s journal following the second annual Hart Family reunion on August 28, 1926. Even in those instances where spelling and punctuation seemed incorrect they are reproduced exactly as in the original. However, having compared William’ copy with that of his Grand-uncle Moses several obvious spelling discrepancies were corrected. This is as faithful to McKinley as I can get.
