    Notes:

    Polly Burke died before 1846 because the will of her father, Fleming Burke, Senior, made Oct. 1846, probated March 7, 1848 listed her children as his heirs. The man Polly married, William Isaiah Fuller, was admired enough by his father-in-law that he was made Administrator of Burke's estate. My grandfather Burke was named Isaiah Fuller Burke by his father who was Fleming Burke, Junior. So, it is apparent that he felt no resentment about the respect and affection given to William Isaiah Fuller. In fact, the name "Isaiah Fuller" has followed into two later generations of Burkes: "Zade" and "I.F." Burke were both named "Isaiah Fuller" Burke, even though there is no blood kinship to the Fuller family. - Virginia Rhoades. In a letter to Isaiah Fuller "I.F." Burke, of Lexington, Ky, on October 15, 1984, Mary E. Skelton of Marietta, Georgia (a descendant of John Burke who was a brother of Fleming Burke, Senior) states as follows: "Fleming Burke, Senior, had a daughter Polly who married William Isaiah Fuller. She had died by date of Fleming's will dated 12 Oct. 1846, probated 7 March, 1848. Among heirs were grandchildren, children of deceased daughter, Polly Fuller, to receive slave Harvey, bed and furniture and $200. Isaiah Fuller was Administrator of estate even though Fleming had 4 living sons in Russell County, VA. He must have been much favored and it's obvious where the name came from in your line".

    Notes:

    The will of Fleming Burke, Senior was dated Oct. 12, 1846 and was probated Mar. 7 , 1848 in Russell County, Virginia. (Will Book 6, page 121, Russell Co., VA.) It was proven 5 April 1848 & 21 May 1848. In it he gives 6 slaves variously to his legatees. But, one, he specified the following: "I liberate, manumit, and forever set free my Negro woman slave Betsy, now upwards of forty years of age, in consideration of her faithfulness in serving and attending to me and my family; and I set apart out of my estate the sum of fifty dollars to be placed in the hands of my son William, as trustee for her, or in case of his death or refusal to take charge of it, then in the hands of my executor, to be applied for the use and benefit of said Betsy, as said trustee or executor may think proper to apply it, until it may all be exhausted". The Motto on the Coat of Arms of the Burk family: Ung - Roy , One King; Ung - Foy, One Faith; Ung - Loy, One Law. Another possible spelling of the first name: FLEMYN, rather than Fleming. Fleming Burke, Senior had a brother named John Burk(e). That John Burk(e) married a Rebecca Vermillion. Fleming Burk shows up on the Russel Co Personal Propery Tax List for the first time in

    Notes:

    We think the maiden name of Rebecca who married Fleming Burke, Senior, might have been "Miller". I need to do direct research in Russell County, in southwestern Virginia. (Note: The 1850 census of Russell County, Virginia which contained his son, Fleming Burke, Junior, covers all of what now is Wise, Dickenson, and a large portion of the Southwestern section of Buchanan County. The suggestion that Rebecca's surname might be "Miller" came from Mary E. Skelton (Marietta, Georgia), a descendant of John Burke and Rebecca Vermillion. In the new database on internet from the Latter Day Saints, IGI Batch F867132, Sheet 27, Fleming Burk, born about 1807 in Russell Co., VA; Father, Fleming Burk; Mother, REBECCA MILLER".
