    Lil told me that Grandma Renilde's sister saw her father, Emile, beaten and robbed. This may explain his dead eye. She went home and sat by the fire so close it melted her doll. She wouldn't eat or talk and she wasted away and died.

    Sam was a lover. I remember an argument between he and Helen (these arguments were always conducted with the largest possible audience of young children) wherein Helen complained about Sam's constant sexual demands. Sam said he didn't understand her problem since it only took three minutes. She allowed as how that was so and stopped complaining about it. Their young high school-aged daughter, Carolyn (a.k.a.
